Focus on the musk olfactory family
Originally of animal origin, musk is today reproduced by synthetic notes which create this very particular woody animal scent . Musk is very popular in perfumery: it gives strength to the perfume, allows more volatile notes to be better fixed and brings suppleness, softness and sensuality to a composition. White musk is today the most used musk in perfumery. It rhymes with sweetness, tenderness and comfort. Musky scents are composed of cottony, soft, comfortable and enveloping notes .
Suave, warm and sensual, musk is a must in perfumes for women as well as perfumes for men . Musk accompanies all olfactory families and reveals different facets : we will find it in light floral or solar fragrances , associated with rose, jasmine or ylang-ylang (as in the mixed perfume Musc de rêve ), than in more opulent oriental perfumes , combined with amber, woods and vanilla ( escapade en Orient unisex perfume). Musky notes are base notes, which will mix very well with light floral notes, fruity notes or citrus fruits, which are more like top or heart notes.
Musky perfumes at Margot&Tita
At Margot&Tita, musky notes make us think of comforting notes . We associate musky perfumes with “skin perfumes” because the musky notes remain on the skin, they do not “take off”. They remind us of natural smells like the smell of the skin itself, in an almost intimate aspect , like pheromones. The particularity of musky notes is that they can bring different perceptions such as a feeling of cleanliness, or of baby's skin. This is the bottom of the Animal Velvet scented mist, a feminine and addictive scent reminiscent of the smell of clean laundry.
Musky scents are those that go best with other olfactory families. It is therefore easy to combine them in Mix&Match with a citrus scent ( Dream Musk & Tout va bien ) or with a floral scent ( Dream Musk & Particular Partner ) for example.
